The marks,

Three locks: the primary crest for official and ceremonial use, the secondary badge for compact and patch placements, and the horizontal wordmark for headers and wide spaces. Cold and clean.

03 — Typography

Built on
Stratum.

The Messier marks are set in Stratum, a squared athletic family from Process Type Foundry. Stratum 1 does most of the work across both crests and the wordmark subtitle; Stratum 2 Black sets the wordmark’s “MESSIER.” The marks ship as final art, so the fonts aren’t needed to use the brand.

05 — Guidelines

A few rules
worth keeping.

Simple rules to keep the Messier marks sharp and consistent wherever they show up.

Do this
  • Use the approved marks only
  • Keep clear space around the mark
  • Black on light, white on dark
  • Crest for badges and avatars
  • One-color black for single ink
  • Keep black, white, and navy core
Not this
  • Stretch, rotate, or distort the marks
  • Place a dark mark on a dark field
  • Recolor outside the palette
  • Add shadows, gradients, or effects
  • Crowd the marks with other elements
  • Rebuild or rearrange the crest
